Our Teen Bodybuilder of the Week was...
Vince Watson
How Did You Get Started?
It wasn't until 5th grade that I started working out with the little weights ( 2.5's 5's, and 10's). I did that on and off throughout elementary school. Then once I hit High School I played football, and knew it was time to get bigger. Still with a young immature mind, I couldn't seem to dedicate myself to weights as much as I would have liked. It wasn't until 9th grade, after my second year in football, that I started going to the gym with my older brother Dease Watson and his friend Scott Paterson.
I tried a few supplements in 2003. I did mostly Creatine and Whey Protein. It wasn't until summer that I tried No2. I never really noticed much, other then gains which should have came from all the hard training I was doing. I ended up having a max bench of 215, max dumbbell curls of 50lbs 10 times sitting down, and a Squat of 255. It all took off from there; I was hooked to the weights. While everyone else went home to hang out with friends, and play video games, me and my brother and some friends went to the gym to enhance our strength, and power for a sport we loved. Football. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You? I never really had a specific workout plan I follow my brother most of the way to start off, he was on an SFU (Simon Fraiser University) weight lifting program which determined your weights by your bodyweight then increased as the weeks went by. It worked for me. Currently I'm doing a power-lifting program, and it seems to be giving me the gains I want. In a month I went from a max bench of 215 to 245, and from 275 max squat to a 315, almost all the way down. What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You? My diet is very disorganized, it's one of my huge downfalls, and main reason why I've not progressed as much as I would have liked to. I take N-Large 2 right now, but the cost is high for someone who's currently unemployed, and has no cash to go out and by another bucket once this stuff is gone. My food, well it's there for the taking. My parents have always believed in having good food, and it's just what a Bodybuilder needs to make those extra calories. But for some reason, I lose appetite fast, and never seem to cram as much food in as I should. What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains? The supplements that have worked best for me are Creatine Monohydrate, Glutamine, and Heavyweight Gainer 900. These helped me out so much in achieving those few extra steps to my goals. I use to use Ephedrine, but I've stopped now, worried about running out my luck. Why do you love Bodybuilding?
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I've had a goal ever since I started lifting weights and that's been to make it to the NFL, play it pro. Weight lifting is my key to getting to my dreams, everyday I lift I think about the future. I'm about to give up on a set, then I remember why I'm here, and I push it a little more. For example, after I cycled off the Ephedrine, and creatine for the little of 3 days I felt weaker, less of a drive, and it was a lot harder to do what I usually did with the weights. I go up to a tri machine, and I stack it, but only once, 3 days ago I could do it 7.
Discouraged I walk over to the counter of the gym and tell my friend (Kelly who just happens to own the gym) he looks at me and he says " Well Vinnie, you've gotta push yourself, it's all metal. I guess what it comes down to is how bad you wanna make it to the NFL." I looked at him and walked over to the machine, and with that thought in my head; I pushed out 7 reps, just like before. Lifting weights is like playing football; you can't go onto the field thinking your going to lose, because you've already lost. You can't go into a exercise thinking you won't be able to lift the weight, because you psyching yourself out, and you wont lift it.. Mental my friends, mind over matter, you want it, you'll get it... It all comes down to how badly you want it. What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders? My advice to all the other bodybuilders, weightlifters, athletes, or who ever is going for a goal, never give up. Push yourself to the max every time, you'll never get anywhere if your always expecting someone to do it for you, take charge, take control of your life, your future, right now is where it starts, your life, you run it, do it responsibly, and go full out every time. 110%. On many emotional games in junior football this year one of my Coaches (Coach Dino) said to every player he put out "You go out there, and you make a difference", and that's life, making that difference. So do it, make your choice, stick with it, and make the difference. Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders? I've got one Favorite, and that's Arnold. Great man, he's a champion on the stage and in heart.
