Why I Got Started
dot

Virtually all my life from the age of about 8-15 I was the fat kid that was always picked on for being fat, it was constant every day at school. I used to constantly eat junk food to make myself happy. What didn't help was the fact that I also had done no exercise.

I started to change things up and started cutting out chocolate and sweets and soda. I was starting to change and began eating healthy, but I was still fat and unhappy so I decided to do some research on what else I could do. I figured you never see a fat runner so I decided to go running 4-5km 5 days a week on top of a 1 hour cycle everyday to and from school.

From then I started dropping weight fast. After that I started to eat even less and was dropping weight at serious speed, but I didn't know I was losing a lot of muscle too and was just happy to be going down in weight.

I Didn't know I Was Losing A Lot Of Muscle Too.

I was fixed on this until I found myself in a real hole. I was 119 lbs with no muscle and no fat. People were really worried about me but I was just happy to not be fat. After a while of getting sense talked into me I figured I didn't look good and decided I had to change again, this I were I started to learn about weight lifting.

How I Did It

I started to buy British fitness magazines and followed some of the routines they had in there but they were not very good for adding size. I had done a lot of research here at Bodybuilding.com. I learned how much I should be eating and what macros I should be eating, I slowly started putting on size. Some of the articles I really like are:

As I did more research I was learning more and more and was really getting into lifting weights and applying my knowledge to it all. I joined the Muscleandfitness.com message board and the guys there really helped.

I started to learn about the Bill Starr 5x5 program and decided to give that a shot, this was one of the best decisions I made to use this program. My strength gains went through the roof and was watching myself grow.

Because I worked out at home I was limited to the amount of equipment I had. I made my transformation with just a basic bench, EZ bar, Straight bar, dumbbell bars and loads of free weight discs. I was kind of limited to what I could do, but I just improvised were I had to. On top of all this I made sure I done the following:

  • Eat 6-8 small clean meals a day
  • Eat between 1.5-2g protein per lb of bodyweight
  • Eat breakfast every day
  • Drink at least a gallon of water a day
  • Never miss a workout
  • Have a solid pre and post workout shake
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night
