Our Teen Bodybuilder of the Week was...
Phil Choi
How Did You Get Started?
I've always wanted a powerful physique that was superior to the average man. I was sick of seeing an average "athletic build" that was easily achieved by most high school kids who simply picked up a sport and hit the gym 2-3 days a week.
My goal and what got me driving to take bodybuilding seriously was the idea of creating a body that someone can look at and say, "That's not normal". The goal is to have people look at you and have no other choice but to respect the reality that you had achieved something that only a few people in this world can. The idea of enduring pain to create strength always appealed to me as well.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I will provide a sample workout but without an exact set and rep range because that always varies for me. I train mostly on instinct and feel. Set ranges from 4-5 on most exercises. Rep ranges are lower on powerlifts such as bench, squat, and deadlifts.
Tuesday - Legs
Leg press Leg curl Leg extension Single leg extension Single leg curl Stiff-legged deadlifts Wednesday - Rest
Lat pulldown Barbell rows 1 arm dumbbell rows Pullups *Deadlifts done every other week
Friday - Shoulders
Side lateral raises Front raises Rear delt machine 1 arm lateral raises using cables
Saturday - Bicep/Tricep
Dumbbell curls Preacher curls Cable curls
Triceps: Sunday - Rest *Calves are done every other day starting from Monday
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You? I have only followed a serious nutrition plan when preparing for a competition. On the off-season when I am looking forward to bulking and gaining size, my nutrition plan is generally leaned towards consuming tons of calories, carbs, and protein but nothing too scientific. I never go too deep into my diet in terms of measurement. What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains? I'm not a huge fan of supplements so I never go too crazy by stacking up on all the stuff on the market other than the general protein, creatine, vitamins, etc. I would say Cellmass is a great creatine product and has probably given me some good gains.
Why Do You Love Bodybuilding? I love bodybuilding because of the idea that you are on your own and there is no real teammate other than yourself. It is your dedication, discipline, and desire that will get you where you want in bodybuilding. There is no teammate for you to blame or to do it for you. What you give in is what you get out. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans? Pack on serious size and chisel down for a competition. What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders? Stay disciplined, dedicated, and hungry. Never settle for anything less than you can achieve. Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders? The legends of course: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Levrone, Flex Wheeler. More Bodybuilder Profiles:
