How Did You Get Started?

Let me start off by saying, I've never played a sport in my entire life. I've never had a coaching figure in my life, or any form of a trainer. I just never really felt a need for physical activity in my younger days. I was concerned with however, my God given six-pack.

I didn't want to lose it as I had begun to from a lack of movement and daily consumption of a massive box of Willy Wonka's Nerds candy. So I finally decided to take some action. At first the only form of exercise I got was a twenty-minute nightly session flailing around with some 5lb dumbbells not knowing what I was doing.

Then maybe a couple of leg lifts here and there. This went on for probably a good year until it finally hit me that maybe there is more to exercise than just leg lifts and 5 lb dumbbell curls. To make up for the lack of a coaching/trainer figure, I hopped on my computer instead and began searching for more efficient ways to use my dumbbells at home.

In my search, I stumbled upon Bodybuilding.com. I didn't think much of it at first, and I used it really only to find some new exercises I could perform. Later that same week, by total chance, I was invited to a gym!

I was kind of nervous about the whole Idea at first, but I knew it was something that I would be better off doing. I tagged along with my friend and his brother to a local facility and was immediately bitten by the bug. The second I laid my hands on that bench and managed to pump out 12 reps of 65 lbs, I knew this was something I wanted to get better at.

I joined the gym the next day. Now, this was a good first step, but I still didn't know what I was doing. Everyday was a full body workout, and my diet plan had remained the same. I had continuously visited Bodybuilding.com for tips and things, and eventually learned the ropes.

I learned what a "split" was. I learned about whey protein, I learned everything one needs to know from this website. I visited it constantly, and still do, to get tips on workout programs, or just learn about a more effective exercise. Since that day I joined the gym, Bodybuilding.com has taught me more about this lifestyle than probably any other medium could.

I truly am grateful for all the great articles that people publish on this site, because they helped me earn the body I have today. You know those commercials that say "Body by milk"? Well this body is by Bodybuilding.com. My results are courtesy of the info that anybody can obtain from this truly awesome database. Once again, thank you everyone!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Currently I am following an epic 13-day split that I will utilize for most of the summer months. There are no specific exercises for each day because I am trying to focus on muscle confusion for maximum growth. Therefore, each time I perform that muscle group's workout, it will be different from the last. However, I usually stick with 6-7 exercises per-muscle group, doing 8-12 reps per set.

Then start again. I tried to space the muscle groups as evenly as possible so that they would each have a decent amount of recovery time before their next workout.

Abs: Done every other day after cardio in the morning.

Cardio is done in the morning.

  • Training Days:
30 minutes of low-moderate intensity (treadmill or elliptical)

  • Off Days:
    25 minutes of HIIT

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

Given my fairly young age and my lighting quick metabolism, I've found that eating a diet consisting of 5 meals of about 300 calories, and 2 meals of 500+ calories per day is enough to maintain my mass. I haven't been on this diet long enough yet to know if I will see gains from it, but I do feel it will be my most effective diet plan yet.

Meal 1 (Pre-Cardio):

Meal 2 (Post Cardio):

Meal 3:

Meal 4 (Post Workout):

  • 2 Scoops of Protein
  • 1 Cup of Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Granola

Meal 5:

Meal 6: Protein Pancakes!

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Once I began taking Optimum's 100% Whey, I began noticing really nice growth. Supplemented with NO Shotgun, I have begun to see even greater gains.

I've been reading a lot about keeping the body in an anabolic state, so I've found that eating every two hours has also given awesome results. As long as my muscles have enough food, or supplement to feed them, I'm sure I'll continue to see gains.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

For the guns and the girls of course! (HAHA!) Actually, I fell in love Bodybuilding because of the transformation I saw my body go through when I first started. It's pretty exciting to earn your very own pair of pecs or some boulder shoulders.

Since I had those first gains, I know that I can only see greater ones from here on out. I love it because the more you do, the more you get. The fact that it's also a healthy lifestyle is another reason I love it.

Especially now, during America's obesity crisis, showing people the amazing results you've earned in the gym can be enough to get them into a gym to tone up their own bodies, to earn their own results.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I'm really hoping that my body allows me to gain some real serious weight. I know that I'm not going to be giving up in the gym anytime soon, so I sure as heck hope my body won't either.

I'm hoping to get to at least 180 in the coming years. My short-term goal is to get to 155lbs by this coming February. I'd really love to compete soon, but I would like to give myself a few more months before I go out looking for competitions.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

To anyone that's looking to get in shape, or put on some serious size, you need to be serious about it. If you think just working out without proper nutrition going to get you results, you're dreaming.

You need to approach this lifestyle with open arms, willing to embrace everything that is required for results, that includes giving up your favorite foods, and doing 45 minutes of cardio in the morning when you'd rather be watching Regis. Stay serious and you'll get the serious results you're looking for.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Definitely Bob Cicherillo, Gunter Schlierkamp, and Milos Sarcev. Bob is flat out hilarious and really puts a good face on Bodybuilding. Gunter is huge! And Milos, well... he makes ordinary people into gladiators, and that's awesome.
