Our Teen Bodybuilder of the Week was...
Kyle Fife
How Did You Get Started? I began using Nautilus/Cybex machines during middle school, then progressed from there. Until I got a car, when I was 17, the limiting factor was getting a ride to the gym. From then on, I began training almost 7 days/week. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I Am Currently On A 5-Day Split:
Chest, legs, back, shoulders, arms (with abs and calves trained 2-3 times per week.
I include 1-2 days rest within my split according to how my body is feeling. I've toyed with 3 and 4-day splits, but settled on my current routine because it allows me to really isolate and exhaust a muscle group, then let it rest, recover and grow.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I have a relatively fast metabolism that allows me to easily stay within 6-8% bodyfat when I'm not dieting. Thus, I make sure to take in a large amount of calories (approx. 3500-4000 per day) and get around 250g protein from a variety of sources.
I try and keep my carbs complex, except before and after a workout - just a basic bodybuilding diet really. I like to limit my fat intake, especially from bad sources - but I definitely allow some room for cheating because I enjoy food so much (usually I'll cheat on dessert after dinner). I try and eat about 7-8 meals per day, with 2-3 of those being shakes.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I've only stuck to the basic supplements, partially because the advanced stuff is so expensive. I really recommend whey protein, and casein at night. Other than that, just creatine (
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I think it's a great sport that, in general, promotes a very healthy lifestyle. I feed off of the rush I get from a great workout.
Basically, I think bodybuilding is unique because there are so few variables involved once you're in the gym: the weights are always there - you bring the intensity and focus, and results will follow.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans? Because I'm getting too old to compete in the teen divisions, I plan to focus on adding some quality mass in the next couple of years in order to possibly compete in the amateur divisions. What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Don't neglect nutrition. Diet is, in my opinion, the most important aspect of bodybuilding.
