Our Teen Bodybuilder of the Week was...
Jason Dean
How Did You Get Started? When I was a freshmen in high school, I received an Olympic-size bench and weight set which I began to use on a regular basis. It wasn't until the following year that I started to develop some noticeable muscles and decent size. Thus, I've been hooked since. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I can't even describe the assortment of splits and combinations of muscle groups I've experimented with throughout these years. However, typically I had always worked out anywhere from 3 to 5 days a week. I just tried to stay consistent. I've spent countless hours reading about other guys' routines through magazines and what not, and I must say it can be really aggravating trying to narrow down a routine with all the contradicting information and advice
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains? I've always used a basic protein powder/weight gainer after workouts. I try hard to eat variety of meals and to eat a lot. Why do you love Bodybuilding? I don't love bodybuilding. In fact I think it's mentally unhealthy and can actually be somewhat detrimental to the body. At the time these pictures were taken and this profile was made, I was in a silly bodybuilding phase. Now, a few years later, my perspective has completely changed. Professional bodybuilding is ridiculous, and people who are like how I was, totally obsessed with bodybuilding, need to realize the negative aspects that arise because of it. Things like obsessive-compulsive disorder and body dysmorphic disorder, stressed nervous system, little functional strength and poor cardio health, narcissism, are all things that every bodybuilder has whether they know it or not. I'm embarrassed that the thought of entering a bodybuilding contest even crossed my mind. Lift weights occassionaly to stay strong and hard if you want, but leave it at that. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans? None. I'm not a bodybuilder anymore. What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders? Don't just do weights! Sure, you might get built and ripped and look nice, but most likely you're not going to have a lot of functional strength and your body won't be as loose and fluid as it should be. Do other forms of exercise. Go out for a run, do some boxing, play some soccer. Past few years I've been doing lots of grappling and kickboxing. Just lifting weights doesn't compare. DO something with your muscles. Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders? None anymore. Any inspiration I get comes from athletes, namely MMA fighters.
