HZ: My mom has been competing for about 3 years now and won 3 Natural Olympia Title. I watched her the first year and decided I wanted to 'give THAT a go!' and here I am!
JS: How long have you been training for and when did you actually get serious
in bodybuilding?
HZ: I started training about 3 years ago and competed for the 1st time in Oct
2001.
JS: What supplements do you use?
HZ: In competition mode the only thing I take is a multi vitamin and an odd
dose of L-Carnitine. No powders. My trainer believes in 'real' food.

HZ: I study Law at Monash University; I work as a customer service rep and a
nanny. When I am not doing that I am out dancing with my girlfriends!
JS: You are a pretty confident person. Do you think that it is thanks to weight training
and staying fit and healthy?
HZ: To a degree, yes. But I think it's just the way I am. I don't try hard to impress people as long as I am 100% happy with where I am and what I'm doing. I AM HAPPY & CONFIDENT.
JS: What would you have to say to other teenage girls who may want to start
training seriously and follow in your footsteps?
HZ:
1) If you are based in Victoria, go & see The Legend, George Tabban
at Muscle & Bodyshape (25 Wangaratta Street, Richmond Ph. No. 9427 8735) or
go to his website if your not in Vic www.muscleandbodyshape.com.au HE IS
YOUR MAN! And now he's on email, so he's available to EVERYONE! He
stripped me of 26 kilos in my first year and led me to win the Victorian
(OPEN Figure), Australian (OPEN Tall Figure) and Natural Olympia (Teenage)
Titles as well as placing 3rd in the OPEN Figure at the Olympia in Hawaii!
2) Set a goal and make sure it is realistic. Actually write up a list of
priorities and a timetable that you have to look at everyday. It's so easy
to avoid training one day or not eat what your supposed to so if it's in
writing, it's easier.
3) Go and see a dietician and a GP. Visiting your GP should be a regular
thing especially while your dieting because there are so many things that
can be affected when your a young female (i.e. menstruation and general well
being) and you need to make sure you are aware of how to recognize an
abnormality if it should occur and the most effective way to avoid any
problems arising. There are heaps of really simple things like a good multi
vitamin that will avoid so much drama.
4) See a trainer! Whether you decide to train with them right up until your
comp or just initially. Get the advice. Other wise you are just wasting your
time.
5) Be prepared to make sacrifices! It's not going to be easy and you will
really find out who your real friends are. 99% of your prep is MENTAL! Make
sure you try to explain what your doing and why you are doing it to your
friends and family. As for a lot of people they just don't get and for that
reason. They will critisize and that's the last thing you need. Learn to deal
with critisism and know that alot of the time it's genuine concern for your
well being but at times its pure jealousy.
6) Stay focused on your goal and think of what you're aiming for long term
instead of focusing on what your missing out on right now. LAST, HAVE FUN DOING IT! It's the most rewarding thing you will ever accomplish!
JS: Thanks a lot Hayley and Good luck in these years' competitions.
