Is It Tough Carrying Extra Weight While Bulking?

Thanks for taking the challenge and bulking up. I am a beginner at bodybuilding. I am going to follow your plan. Right now I weigh 215, but I have plateaued. I'm tall, 6'3" so I'm not huge by any means, but I want to make some major gains. When getting bulked up, carrying that much extra weight, was it hard or uncomfortable. I'm sure making that rapid increase in bodyweight had to affect you. I actually started last night with two chicken breasts and 60 gram protein shake.

How did it affect you? I know the end result was great for you and I hope it is for me also. Thanks for your time.

This was my third time bulking. Each time, I gain less fat and more muscle than the previous time. This was my longest bulking cycle, 5 months, compared to 3 months for the first time and 4 months for the second time. During the first 2 cycles, I felt fat. No physiological problems, just psychological. During this last bulking cycle, I felt great! I did not put on that much fat and I felt healthier than ever. I felt my best when I adding cardio into my routine (while bulking). Most people believe this is a big No-No, but I made my best gains then and felt my healthiest. I never carry "That much extra weight", so I don't have any problems feeling uncomfortable.

The goal of bulking is to add muscle, not fat. If you are adding "that much extra weight", you need to re-evaluate your diet. Some people adopt the motto, "I’m bulking, so I eat whatever I want." They feel that because of all the excess calories they are consuming, they will grow. They are correct because their gut will grow. Those who approach bulking this way are the ones who complain when it comes time to cut.

I gained 14 pounds in 5 months during this bulking cycle. That averages out to about 2.8 pounds a month. Not what I would consider a rapid gain in weight. When it comes to bulking, you have to pace yourself. Do not try to gain tons of weight in a short amount of time. It takes time to build muscle. Just over eating doesn’t cut it.
