AST's Ny-Tro Pro 40
AST's Ny-Tro Pro 40 is one of my favorite meal replacements. I have tried
all three of their flavors (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry). The
strawberry flavor is without a doubt the best tasting of the three. It
contains 0.5 grams of fat, 22 grams of carbohydrates, and 40 grams of
protein.
The protein is composed of milk protein isolate, calcium caseinate,
egg white, and whey protein concentrate. It also contains L-Glutamine and the
three branched chain amino acids. All this makes Ny-tro Pro 40 a great meal
replacement. If you buy them from BB.com, it ends up being about $1.65 per
packet. Which is not bad at all considering most people pay over $2 for a
hamburger.
AST's Vyo-Pro Bar
During my contest prep, I used AST's Vyo-Pro bar when I had to eat
something quick on the go. The first time I ate one of these bars, I thought
it tasted terrible! But after that first one, I enjoyed eating them. They
taste like brownies and tootsie rolls mixed together. In each bar, there is
7 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates (Only 1 gram of sugar), and 20
grams of protein.
The protein is composed of whey protein concentrate,
calcium caseinate, milk protein isolate, whey protein isolate, hydrolyzed
whey protein concentrate and egg albumin. It also contains L- Glutamine.
This is one bar that I can actually stand eating. One thing I like about
these bars is I swear they do not melt. I had one in my pocket for almost an
entire day. When I took it out to eat it, I knew it was going to be melted.
But as I unwrapped it, I saw it was in perfect condition.
AST's ALA
After doing some research on ALA I decided to give it a try. During my
contest prep, I was taking 1800 mg a day. I took 400 mg with breakfast, 400
pre-workout, 600 mg post workout, and 400 mg before bed. For awhile, I did
not think this product was doing anything. At 6 weeks out, my biceps were at
close to 15.5 inches. After two weeks on ALA they were up to 16 inches. At
the time, I figured I just regained size.
But after some more thinking I
realized that this increase was due to ALA. Because I was on a cutting diet,
my glycogen levels were being depleting so my muscles were getting smaller.
One of ALA's main functions is to increase glucose uptake by muscles. By me
taking ALA, I was refilling my muscles will glycogen without having to up my
carbs. This is a great supplement, especially when cutting.
L-Glutamine
This is one of my favorite supplements. I believe that this supplement was
one of the main factors that allowed me to keep my muscle mass while
cutting. The greatest fear for bodybuilders is to lose muscle when cutting.
There is nothing more disappointing than losing something you have worked so
hard to receive.
But by using L-Glutamine, I was able to stay out of a
catabolic state. I took 5 grams in the morning, 5 grams pre-workout, 5 grams
post workout, and 5 grams before bed. This technique worked very well for
me.
Xenadrine NRG
I do not know exactly how much effect this had on me burning fat, but I do
know that it helped suppress my appetite. Before I started Xenadrine NRG, I was
always hungry. No matter what time of the day. After starting Xenadrine NRG, at
about four weeks out, I noticed that my appetite had decreases. This
definitely helped in the long run.
These were the supplements that I used when preparing for my contest. Of
course these supplements would have had no use if my diet was not in-line.
You can take all the supplements in the world, but if your diet isn't up to
par, then you will not progress. Sure you may still lose some weight or gain
some muscle, but nothing compared to what a proper diet can bring.
Perfect Posing Video
This is a pretty decent video. I highly recommend it for beginner
bodybuilders who have no posing experience. If you are already pretty
confident with your posing, then you will not learn much from this video.
This video goes through and explains how to do it of the mandatory poses and
gives you plenty of contest tips.
If you have never been to a bodybuilding
competition and plan to compete, this is something to look into if you
cannot attend a contest. It does not replace the first hand knowledge you
gain for going to a contest in person though.
Lee Priest's Blond Myth Video
This is the first bodybuilding video I ever saw. It's pretty cool to see
one of today's pros go through his workouts and actually talk to his
viewers. The video goes through a training session of each muscle group, has
some of the 1997 Ironman footage, along with a little humor. It's a decent
video, so if you got a few extra bucks, check it out.
