![]() By: Chris Meraz Motivation is very important when it comes to weightlifting. It can even decide how much you will lift and how many reps you will lift it. Without motivation, our gyms would be filled of boring, quiet people who just do their routines and don't say a thing! [Editor's Note: Actually, the gyms might be empty!] There are many different ways to get motivated: everything from looking at your favorite bodybuilder, getting pissed off, or even trying to impress that girl in your 1st hour.

Music is probably the most popular way to get motivated. I like it the best, as well. The best music for getting motivated is probably some Metallica or stuff like that. I'm not that much into alternative, so when I want to get motivated I just turn on some good ol' rap and I'll be ready to go!
It's hard for me to stay motivated by the time I get to the gym because my gym plays this dance crap which is good for aerobics but totally sucks for weightlifting. This is when my handy dandy walkman or CD player comes into play.
This works for some people but usually not me, since I am more of a laid back type of person that couldn't give a ---- about what other people are saying or doing. However, for other people this might work very well. Say your girlfriend told you, "I love you - but, I'm not in love with you". Or the worst thing any guy could hear, "Let's just be friends..." Now just like every other guy, I have been told those things - but I just use it as motivation. Or like last week when my friend got pissed at me for supposedly spending too much time with my girlfriend. Stuff like that pisses me off.
I'll tell you this much - this way to get motivated does not work for me anymore. It used to, when I wanted to become a professional wrestler. I would just look at a HHH picture and imagine myself being that big and then, bam!, I was ready to go. But, since I stopped watching wrestling, it just doesn't have the same effect as it did before.
For some of us, watching some huge guy at your gym bench 300 lbs. might be motivation. However, for me, this way sucks. Plus, I'm not that into checking out other guys... Well, that's about all I can think of for now. This is my first article and if you have any comments feel free to e-mail me. I'll see you all later.
